We are going to discuss the symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection today. First a little about just what a yeast infection is. It is caused by an overgrowth of an organism called “Candida Albicans”. Now these are present a lot in smaller numbers but when the number gets too high, they get out of control.
Now before we go any further I want you to remember that no two bodies are alike, and no two bodies will react to this overgrowth of the Candida Albicans the same. So just know that there is no such thing as a 100% complete list of symptoms! So that friend that you ask about your yeast infection may have completely different symptoms than you.
Feel the symptoms of yeast infection.
You may feel a burning and itching sensation in and around the vulva and vagina area. It may so bad that you experience discomfort when walking. You may also experience this burning during urination. Now pay attention when this happens because if it starts hurting before the urine gets out it may be a urinary tract infection. If it is from a yeast infection, the acidic urine will irritate the already irritated area around the vulva. So it will start hurting later.

Look at the symptoms of yeast infection.
Now this is really an area that varies. There could be a little or a lot of discharge. This discharge could vary from thin to an almost thick and clumpy consistency. And the color of this discharge may vary from almost clear to white, to yellow, to pink. There are a lot of things that affect the look of this yeast infection discharge. For instance where you are in terms of your monthly menstrual cycle, if you are ovulating, breast feeding, or when you are sexually excited.
There may also be some swelling and redness in the vaginal and vulva areas.
Smell the symptoms of yeast infection.
There could possibly be no smell, but a lot of times there is the smell of yeast. So that could be like smelling bread or beer. But certainly not the same good feeling that you get when you smell beer or bread. And there really shouldn’t be anything else that causes that smell in your body, so that is a pretty good sign that you in fact have a yeast infection.
Should I see the Doctor if I have the symptoms of yeast infection?
As I have said before, no one knows your body like you. So if you have had these symptoms before and saw a Doctor, than you may be OK with an over the counter treatment. It would also depend on how severe your symptoms are. If this is your first time and they are severe you should see the Doctor. There are other very serious infections that have some of these same symptoms. Please keep that in the back of your mind before you make any hasty decisions.
Another word of caution. Yeast infections are more common during pregnancy, but you need to be more careful about what treatments you use. Do not use anything during pregnancy unless your Doctor knows about it and approves!
